Celebrate Belarus Freedom Day with us at the screening of The Accidental President at Jeden svět / One World Film Festival in Prague

We are thrilled to hold the screening of The Accidental President on such a significant day for Belarusians. March 25 marks the beginning of sovereign Belarus in 1918. More than a century later, the fight for freedom in the country still persists.

The main protagonist of the movie, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, an ordinary housewife from Belarus, was thrust onto the international political stage when her husband was arrested for daring to challenge Alexander Lukashenko for the presidency. With her husband a political prisoner, Sviatlana courageously stepped forward and won the popular vote – but was robbed of her democratic victory by Lukashenko’s dictatorial hand on power. Unbowed by deadly threats from her powerful political rival and the KGB, Sviatlana became a beacon of hope for change in her country.

The screening at Lucerna Cinema will be followed by a discussion with special guests – the directors of The Accidental President, Mike Lerner and Martin Herring, along with the movie’s protagonist and advisor to Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya, Franak Viačorka.
